Export of Potatoes to the EU
Since 1 January 2021 seed potatoes cannot be exported from the UK to the EU. SASA are working with the UK government to negotiate the reopening of seed potato export markets to the EU.
Movement of Potatoes to Northern Ireland
Since1 October 2023, seed potatoes may be moved to Northern Ireland (NI) as long as they are moving directly to an approved NI professional operator. All seed potatoes moving to NI must have a NI Plant Health Label (NIPHL) attached to each bag/box as well as the usual seed potato label. Scottish producers are required to be registered as Approved Producers before they are able to use NIPHLs. Further guidance on the NIPHL requirements can be found at EU & Northern Ireland Trade Guidance.
Ware potatoes can be moved to NI but require a tuber inspection and the issue of a phytosanitary certificate.
Further guidance is available from the UK Government on importing and exporting plants and plant products.
