Closing date is 12 April for courses held in May/June and 30 September for courses held in November/December.

Course Description ::

This is a 2 day course using the ISTA tetrazolium method to assess samples of barley, wheat and oats.There are practical sessions on preparation and assessment with one to one training using teaching microscopes.A further half day can be spent in teaching participants in how to use the tetrazolium test for vigour scoring.The cost of the course is £220 per day.

The course will be held in the microscope room within the OSTS building

Course Objectives ::

On completion of the course participants should be able to competently prepare samples of cereals for tetrazolium assessment.They will also be able to categorise the stained embryos into viable and non-viable categories.We must stress that this is an introductory course and analysts will need to gain considerable experience in their own laboratoery before becoming competent.A certificate of attendance will be given at the end of the course

Course Pre-Rquisites ::

It would be an advantage if participants have some experience in germination testing of cereal seed and in the structure of the seed

Seed analysts and grain laboratory staff.
