Equipment used for moisture content test

MOISTURE CONTENT is a factor that determines seed storage potential and can also influence germination after chemical seed treatment. Most growers carry out their own tests using meters that give an almost instantaneous reading. These meters are generally accurate but it is essential that they are regularly checked to ensure they are within their calibration range.

Faulty meter readings can result in:

* a loss of germination potential during storage or after chemical seed treatment; and

* setting driers at temperatures that induce drying damage.

The OSTS can undertake moisture content tests on all kinds of seed using the internationally accepted oven method. Our results can be used to check the calibration of your meter
.
