Malting -Barley embryo |
Barley embryo showing heat damage in a tetrazolium test | | |
The OSTS offers the full range of malting growth tests: germination energy, germination capacity and water sensitivity. In addition, many growers of malt find our tetrazolium test invaluable. |
Damage during drying is one of the principle causes of low germination in Scottish cereal seed and the tetrazolium test can indicate whether drying damage has occurred. The test can therefore be used to evaluate grain drying procedures and is especially useful in determining whether drying damage is present in barley intended for malt. If you are concerned or wish further information please contact Ronnie Don our Chief Officer in the Official Seed Testing Station for Scotland (Phone 0131-244 8891). |
