Analytical Purity

Purity Separation

Analytical purity of a sample of barley

A knowledge of the ANALYTICAL PURITY of a seed lot may be important before processing since it will provide information on the percentage of desired seed in a sample.

It involves the analysis of a seed sample for contaminant seeds of other crops and weeds and inert matter (chaff, empty seed, soil, etc.). SEARCHES of larger samples can also be made to determine the extent of contamination with weed or other seeds.

The common names of crops and weeds vary from region to region and country to country. Because of this, seed testing stations are required to report the Latin names of other seed found in purity tests and searches. As a result of requests, in our Customer Service Surveys, we have produced a list of the Latin and English names
of a range of common crops and weeds. If require further information on the English names of other seeds in your samples, please contact Jean Hall (Phone 0131-244 8803)
