SCIENCE AND PLANTS FOR SCHOOLS

Science and Plants for Schools (SAPS), an initiative launched in 1990, works with teachers to:

  • develop new resources that support the teaching of plant science and molecular biology in schools and colleges
  • interest young people in plants and in molecular biology.

SAPS is a Charitable Company (Company number 4627474) limited by guarantee and registered as a Charity with the Charity Commission (Charity number 1089475) and all monies received are used in support of its charitable aims and objectives.

In 1990 SAPS launched a schools ELISA kit for the detection of Botrytis cinerea  and approached the Antibody Unit to see if we would be willing to take over responsibilty for the production and supply of the kits directly to schools. We agreed and now supply schools throughout the UK and parts of Europe with this very successful kit. The antibody used in the kit was developed by Molly Dewey of Oxford University and the cell line was gifted by her for use in this project.

Schools order the kits directly from SASA  and we also provide a helpdesk facility for any advice that may be needed by teachers.

The kit provides sufficient reagents and equipment for five pairs of students to carry out the experiment. Technical guides and Student guides can be found below.
