Cultivated Potato Database Saturday, March 13, 2010

The European Cultivated Potato Database is a relatively new information resource covering potato varieties and breeding lines  held in European potato collections. The database was the result of a 4 year collaborative project funded by the EU which involved participants from 8 EU countries and 5 East European countries. SASA continues to maintain it within the framework of the European Co-operative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources (ECPGR).  The Potato Working Group will continue work on the database under the coordination of Bioversity International.
As well as identifying the varieties held in the various collections, the collectors provided data covering around 100 descriptors, including susceptibility to late blight.  A facility to track pedigree and parents is also available.  The number of varieties and lines in the database is updated constantly on the front page as new data is entered.  Users can enter and interrogate the database but only contributors issued with a password can publish data.

The European Cultivated Potato Database is hosted by SASA at
