VARIETY TESTING SERVICES

The Section can undertake statutory DUS tests and a range of advisory tests and services on the following crops: Beetroot (including Leaf Beet), Broccoli/Calabrese, Brussels sprout, Cabbage (Red, White and Savoy), Carrot, Celery, Curly Kale, Leek, Onion (short and long day), Parsnip, Peas (vegetable and agricultural), Radish (salad and storage), Runner Bean, Swede, Turnip and Turnip Rape.


1.     TESTS FOR DISTINCTNESS UNIFORMITY AND STABILITY (DUS)


Requests for UK DUS tests should be made to Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, Plant Variety Rights Office and Seeds Division,
White House Lane, Huntingdon Road, Cambridge CB3 0LF UK

2.      PRE-DUS TESTS


Provides advice on potential Distinctness, Uniformity and Stability problems in advance of the statutory test. A provisional description is included with the report.


3.     TEST FOR VARIETAL IDENTITY


Material submitted for test will be grown and compared with definitive seed in order to establish whether it is true to type.


4.      TEST FOR VARIETAL PURITY


Material submitted for test will be grown to establish the number of off-types and to assess the level of continuous variation.


5.      PROVISIONAL DESCRIPTION


A provisional variety description is compiled from plots grown from submitted seed in one growing season. Comparable descriptions are obtained using long-term over-year data


6.     CHARACTERISATION


Characterisation of landrace or cultivated plant material, according to UPOV or IPGRI guidelines, may be undertaken on contract.
