Statutory bee diseases

SASA advises SEERAD and provides diagnostic support on the statutory bee diseases: American Foul Brood; European Foul Brood; and Varroa destructor (formerly V. jacobsoni) in support of SEERAD's responsibilities under the bee diseases legislation.

Suspect samples submitted by SEERAD bees officers are examined for the presence of these statutory bee diseases. If found, SASA provides support in the implementation of the legislation.

SASA also provides a diagnostic service on behalf of SEERAD to Scottish beekeepers for the presence of Varroa destructor. Samples of hive debris or hive inserts may be sent for diagnosis to:
