Inspection and Enforcement

Inspection and Enforcement by the SASA Inspectorate involves four main activities.

  • Assessment and Inspection of field release sites
  • Management audits  of deliberate release consent holders
  • [[link not available]] of conventional seed for adventitious presence of GM seed (i.e. seed of a GM variety becoming mixed with seed of a non-GM variety or seed resulting from cross-pollination between a non-GM variety and a GM variety)
  • Case by case investigation  of specific issues that may be related to potential breaches of the GM deliberate release legislation.

The full range of Inspectorate activities are set out in the work plan which is agreed annually by the GM Co-ordination Team of the Scottish Executive. The workplan is published in the Annual Report of SASA GM Inspectorate.
