Welcome to the Agency’s Genetic Modification web pages. The topics covered in this section explain the Agency’s advisory role on biosafety issues and the work of the Inspectorate for genetically-modified crops.

Definition : What is meant by Genetic Modification?

Regulatory Framework : An overview of the regulation of Genetically Modified Organisms.

Advice : SASA provides technical advice on biosafety issues on GMOS, covering contained-use and release in the environment.

GM Inspectorate : SASA also provides a GM Inspectorate for the Inspection and Enforcement of the Release and Marketing of Genetically Modified Organisms in Scotland

Diagnostics : SASA’s molecular diagnostics laboratory provides a testing service for the GM Inspectorate
