Application of molecular biology methods to the detection and characterisation of organisms of agricultural/horticultural interest.
Use of molecular methods in detection and quantification of GMO contamination of seed.

Biography

Joined SASA in 1995, and worked on a variety of molecular biology projects. This included potato cyst nematode identification, potato virus detection and characterization, detection and quantification of fungal pathogens of wheat, GMO detection, plant pathogen genomics, etc.
For the 10 years prior to 1995 I worked on bacterial genetics research projects at Newcastle, Edinburgh and Warwick Universities. This included five years studying the molecular genetic systems of the plant pathogen Pectobacterium atrosepticum.
